QUICK STEPS TO PREVENT LEAKAGES IN YOUR TOILET

QUICK STEPS TO PREVENT LEAKAGES IN YOUR TOILET

While most toilets on the market now use less than a gallon of water per flush, older versions are notoriously wasteful for water conservation. Even if your toilet is brand new, leaks can waste roughly 200 gallons of water per day. See the information below to learn how to keep your toilet from leaking and the steps towards preventing leakages in your toilet.

A fault is mostly caused by leak in a toilet in the wax gasket. Towards preventing leakages, it is important to replace the wax gasket within a specific period. The following are steps towards replacing the wax gasket. They include;

  • Using a wrench, disconnect the supply tube from the shutdown valve. Make sure the toilet is empty, and the valve is closed.
  • Remove the rounded covers that cover the closet bolts, then remove the hex nuts with a wrench.
  • Lift the toilet by the bowl, not the tank, and place it on an old blanket or cardboard sheet with care
  • Remove all the old wax gasket from the closet flange with a scraper. A portion of the flange has been broken off.
  • After releasing the screws that connect the closet flange to the floor, slide a repair strap under it.
  • Make sure the new wax gasket is positioned on the closet flange before installing it. Make sure both closet bolts are in place.
  • Connect the new water supply tubing to the bottom of the toilet tank's threaded fill-valve shank.
  • To compress the gasket, press down on the toilet bowl rim. Closet bolts should be tightened, then pressed down again.
  • Trim the tops of the closet bolts with a close-quarter hacksaw. Replace the caps after tightening the nuts.
  • Connect the supply tube to the shutdown valve. After that, open the valve, flush the toilet, and look for any leaks.

The above steps will help change the wax gasket and avoid further leaks from your toilet.
